Things to know before an eye examination

Having your eyes examined at Eagle Vision? Here are some guidelines and things to remember before the examination.
Generally at Eagle Vision stores, your vision is tested by an optometrist.

What does an optometrist do?

An optometrist is a health specialist whose main tasks are examining and correcting vision, prescribing glasses, contact lenses and other optical aids, and making and repairing spectacles. The day-to-day tasks of optometrists also include advising clients who need optical aids and referring clients to ophthalmologists for further tests, if needed.
An optometrist is an expert who can correct vision problems caused by the environment and which require knowledge regarding the perception of light, colour and shapes.

What is done during the examination?

During eye examinations, the optometrist uses various devices to determine the structure of your eyes, your eye pressure and your pupillary distance.
They measure your visual acuity and determine whether you need glasses or contact lenses.
In addition, the moisture level of the eyes, colour vision, contrast sensitivity and visual field are also checked to see if everything is normal.
Finally, the optometrist also examines the structures at the front of your eyes under a microscope.

Before coming in for your examination:

  • Make sure you are not suffering from a cold, viral disease or eye infection.
  • Take into account that the examination will last max. 30 minutes for all necessary tests to be completed.
  • If you wear contact lenses, do not put them in that day.
  • When you come back for the contact lens follow-up evaluation, please wear your lenses for a minimum of 4 hours prior to the scheduled examination.
  • If you wear glasses, please bring them with you or take along your previous glasses prescription.
  • The examination should be scheduled for a time when your eyes are rested, from 10am-5pm or on a weekend. The examination will not yield any conclusive results if your eyes are tired.
  • If you have booked a specific time for your examination, the optometrist will expect you at that time.
