Eye examination by an Optometrist
Looking after your vision is an important part of your overall wellbeing. An eye examination by an optometrist is a quick and easy way to check your eyesight, update your glasses prescription and support long-term eye health.
At Eagle Vision, an eye examination by an optometrist cost 10€ when purchasing glasses.
When should you book an eye examination?
You should book an eye examination if:
- your vision feels blurred or weaker than before
- your eyes become tired easily
- you experience headaches when reading or using screens
- your current glasses no longer feel comfortable
- you need new glasses or contact lenses
- it has been more than two years since your last eye examination
Regular eye examinations help maintain clear vision and support good eye health at every age. For glasses wearers, we generally recommend an eye examination every two years.
What happens during an eye examination by an optometrist?
During the appointment, the optometrist checks how well you see at different distances and whether your vision has changed. The examination also helps identify the best vision correction options for your daily life, work and hobbies.
The eye examination may include:
- discussion about your vision and any symptoms
- visual acuity testing
- assessment of distance and near vision
- glasses prescription assessment
- binocular vision assessment
- measurement of intraocular pressure
After the examination, you will receive your glasses prescription together with personalised recommendations for glasses or contact lenses.
Please bring your previous prescription or current glasses to the appointment.

Children’s eye examinations
Good vision is important for a child’s learning and development. If your child struggles with reading, squints frequently, experiences headaches or has difficulty concentrating, it may be time for an eye examination.
Children over the age of 8 can have an eye examination by an optometrist. The examination includes visual acuity testing and assessment of eye function to determine whether glasses are needed.
For children under 8, eye examinations are always first carried out by a ophthalmologist. After the initial assessment, follow-up eye care is provided in cooperation between the ophthalmologist and the optometrist.
When should you see an ophthalmologist instead?
An eye examination by an optometrist is suitable for most routine vision checks and glasses prescriptions. However, some symptoms require medical assessment by an ophthalmologist.
Book an ophthalmologist appointment if:
- you have eye pain
- you experience sudden changes in vision
- you have flashes, floaters or other eye symptoms
- you suspect an eye disease
- you need a medical examination of the eyes
